Constantly Improving Infrastructure

A highly efficient 3-D System of Transportation

Fujian boasts a 3-D system of transportation consisting of large seaports, brand-new expressways, high-speed railways and modern airports.

Highways In addition to an adequate grid of high-quality local roads, Fujian is crisscrossed with three vertical and eight horizontal expressways, with the total mileage of expressways already open to traffic reaching 1,365 kilometers. This network of high-speed land transportation makes it possible for people in any major city within Fujian to reach the provincial capital city Fuzhou by car in less than four hours, and to access the expressway system in less than one hour from any of Fujian's county seats or towns.

Railways Fujian has so far seven outbound railways connected with the national grid, with a total mileage of over 2,630 kilometers. Five high-speed railways (the Wenzhou-Fuzhou, Fuzhou-Xiamen, Longyan-Xiamen, Xiangtang-Putian, and Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway) are currently under construction. Their completion would turn Fujian into a major hub of China's coastal railway system.

Sea Transportation Endowed with a 246.3 kilometers-long deep-water coastline, of which 47 kilometers provide locations for constructing super ports accessible by ships with a dead-weight capacity of between 200,000 to 500,000 tons, Fujian has many superior ports and bays. Its major ports, including Xiamen, Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Putian, Zhangzhou and Ningde, are collectively known as "the cluster of seaports on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits," and occupy a sepcial place in China's national system of ports. As one of China's top five clusters, Fujian's ports handled as many as 240 million tons of cargo in 2007, including the cargo in 6.86 million standard containers. Through its ports Fujian has established shipping links with more than 130 overseas port cities via 160 sea routes.

Air Transport Right now, Fujian is being served by two international airports in Fuzhou and Xiamen respectively, and four regional airports in Mount Wuyi, Jinjiang, Liancheng and Sanming. A number of new airports, located in places such as Ningde, Putian, Zhangzhou and Pingtan, are being planned. Over 200 international routes are currently in service, and the total number of air passengers had reached 14.69 million in 2007.

Abundant Supply of Power

As an electricity-exporting province and with its own power grid connected to the East China Power Grid, Fujian has an abundant, worry-free supply of power throughout the Province. Its installed capacity of electrical generation stood at 23.76 million KW in 2007 and is expected to surpass 30 million KW by 2010. Of this capacity, the hydro, thermal, gas-generated and wind power account for 33%, 54%, 11% and 2% respectively.

A Modern Network of Communication

Fujian offers one of the best telecom services in the country, with IDD to over 180 countries and areas readily available within its borders. The Province in its entirety is also covered by a mobile phone network. It boasts as many as 33 million subscribers to fixed and mobile telephones (approximately 93 lines per 100 persons), and about 10 million subscribers to data and multimedia services.

A Highly Efficient Government Operation Making for a Highly Competitive "Soft" Environment for Investment

Governments at all levels in Fujian are committed to fostering a legally regulated administrative environment that is open, just and fair, to protecting intellectual property rights, and to safeguarding the investors' legitimate rights and interests. This longstanding and firm commitment has resulted in the transparency and high efficiency that characterize the operation of Fujian's government agencies.

Full-fledged Development Zones

Fujian has in operation up to 19 national development zones and 65 provincial ones, including economic and technological development zones, bonded areas, export processing areas, high-tech parks, Taiwan investment areas, holiday resort areas, etc. With their excellent facilities, professional services and agreeable environment, these development zones have become favored destinations for oversea investors.

High-quality Human Resources

Education-wise, Fujian is one of the most developed provinces in China. An indication of the top quality of its education is the fact that Fujian ranks the third nationally in terms of the number of academicians it has contributed to the Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are now up to 5,200 research institutions in the Province, and nearly one million technical personnel. Its 67 institutions of higher learning turn out more than 100,000 college graduates each year. In addition, Fujian has gained the reputation as a thriving "talent market", attracting people of expertise and skills from all around China.
