Population and nationalities: Fujian is a province inhabited by quite a number of nationalities among which the Han nationality accounts for 98.5% of its total population. She nationality is the biggest ethnic group here, accounting for 75% of total population of local 47 minority groups. Mandarin is spoken commonly and there also exists various kinds of dialects such as Fuzhou Dialect, Southern Fujian Dialect, Hakka, Puxian Dialect and Jian'ou Dialect. According to the major data communique of Fujian Census 2006, the province had a population up to 35,580,000 (excluding that of Kinmen and Mazu Islands). Fujian is also a famous homeland for overseas Chinese and the Han Taiwanese. The number of Chinese people with Fujian origin who are now living outside Chinese Mainland has amounted to 10,880,000, among which 1,230,000 people are living in Hong Kong and Macau.
